How to Write Greeting Cards in Romanian

You know somebody in Romania and you want to send them greeting cards or postcards? Do you want to impress them a little? You can do this by sending them a card written in Romanian. I have some examples for you. Just read below and choose one that fit your situation.

For the Christmas Day:
The first one is for a good friend of yours, so it is written in the colloquial language:

Dragă….(your friend’s name)
Cu ocazia sfintelor sărbători de Crăciun iţi urez numai bucurii, noroc şi multă sănătate.
Cu drag,
…..(your name)

The translation:

Dear…
On the occasion of Saint Christmas day I wish you joy, luck and health.
Affectionately,

If you don’t have a close friendship with that person, you should not write in that familiar way, but use a more formal language:

Stimate domnule (if the person is a man)/Stimată doamnă (if the person is a married woman)/Stimată domnişoară (if the person is an unmarried woman)…(the person’s name)
Cu ocazia sfintelor sărbători de Crăciun vă urez numai bucurii, noroc şi multă sănătate.
Cu stimă,
….(your name)

It is mandatory to put your whole name in an official letter not only your first name.
The message of the greeting card remains the same, only the form of address and the signature change.
Stimat/stimată means respected.
Cu stimă means with respect.
If you like you can write a simpler message:
“Crăciun fericit”, which means “Merry Christmas”.
For the Easter Day:

Dragă…,
Cu ocazia sfintelor sărbători de Paşti iţi urez numai bucurii, noroc şi multă sănătate.
Cu drag,

Or:

Stimate domnule/Stimată doamnă/Stimată domnişoară…,
Cu ocazia sărbătorilor de Paşti vă urez numai bucurii, noroc şi multă sănătate.
Cu stimă,

For a birthday:

Dragă…,
Cu ocazia zilei de naştere iţi urez “La mulţi ani” şi numai bucurii.
Cu drag,

“La mulţi ani” cannot be translated into English, but it is the counterpart of “Happy birthday”.
Or:

Stimate domnule/Stimată doamnă/Stimată domnişoară…,
Cu ocazia zilei de naştere vă urez “La mulţi ani” şi numai bucurii.
Cu stimă,

Or if you like you can write only “La multi ani!”
For the New Year Day:

Dragă…,/Stimate domnule…,/Stimată doamnă…,/Stimată domnişoară…,
Cu ocazia noului an iţi/vă urez “La mulţi ani”, numai bucurii, noroc şi multă sănătate.
Cu drag/Cu stimă,

If you are in vacation in a beautiful place you can send to that Romanian person a postcard.
You can use the following message for all the situations:

Salutări de la…(the place you visit).

Example:
Salutări de la New York.
That means “Greetings from New York”.
And you sign the message:

“Cu drag” or “Cu stimă”, according to the situation.
